SaimoN: Pantera – 5 Minutes Alone (Bass Cover)

SaimoN throws down an blistering bass cover of Pantera’s “5 Minutes Alone” that showcases everything that makes the Spector tone such a hallmark of progressive and hard rock genres.

In this video SaimonN is rocking a Spector Euro LX loaded with the LHZ-04 preamp. The full gear list used in this video can be found in the video description.

Ioannis Sandalis : Ghost in the Ruins bass playthrough

Ioannis Sandalis posted this great video playthrough of “Ghost in the Ruins” by Savatage. We love this for a few reasons: Ioannis was inspired to swap out the electronics in his Rebop with an LHZ preamp as he was aiming to get that tone from the Savatage albums that were all recorded on a Brooklyn-era Spector. There’s a tone of tasty detail and articulation on the upper strings, so get the headphones out and enjoy!

Matt Baldwin LHZ-04 Review

Matt Baldwin is an independent recording artist at Mind’s Eye Recording Studios and bassist for the blues-rock band Teskey. He purchased the LHZ-04 to upgrade the stock preamp in his custom Spector and took it into the studio to record tracks for Teskey’s 2025 album “White Wolf.” Matt completely surprised us by recording a video review of the LHZ-04 preamp, which we are proud to share here! This video had us grinning ear-to-ear about halfway through when we got to…

New for 2025: The LHZ-04 Preamp

The LHZ-04 preamp is a physical re-design of our current LHZ-03 model. It is the same circuit, same components, and same sound. Improvements for 2025 were driven by a significant number of clients using the LHZ in non-Spector basses with very confined control cavities. With smaller board dimensions and extremely low vertical clearance requirements, the LHZ-04 is THE choice for challenging installations.

This video walks you though the differences between the LHZ versions.

LHZ Preamp Installation into American Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 String

This video is a walk-thru of the process of upgrading a American Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 String bass from the EMG BTS to the LHZ-03 preamp. This is NOT a typical installation because it as a custom modification to use a DPDT bypass switch. This allows the LHZ preamp to be bypassed for those times where I want just the un-EQ’d pickup outputs.

Spector® Bass Setup Procedures

The majority of these notes were written by Jim Eppard who is responsible for setting up USA Spector® basses in the NY workshop.

Jim’s notes were modified slightly to accommodate my own setup preferences and formatted to make it easier to read. I asked Jim if was OK to share this revised copy, and he said: “Share away! Spread the knowledge around!”

LHZ History

I thought I’d take a few minutes to go through the progression of updates to the LHZ preamp since it’s inception in 2022. I laughingly tell people that I’ve “accidently started a business.” It’s framed as a joke, but the reality is exactly that: this was a personal project and I’d never considered selling them until I kept getting ask to sell “just one” to someone. It’s been a journey of learning all around. Not just in how to set…
