Massachusetts bassist Joe Pettengill is an accomplished musician whose career spans classic rock, progressive rock, and original instrumental music. Joe is the bassist and backing vocalist for FJ (formerly Foreigners Journey), a nationally touring tribute to two of rock’s most iconic bands, Foreigner and Journey.
A veteran of the New England music scene, Joe previously performed with the Journey tribute band Captured, alongside fellow FJ members Paul Kochanski and Art Mambuca.
Outside of his work with FJ, Joe writes and records original music under the name Joeykun, drawing on his experience as a bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, and producer. His releases include the bass-focused instrumental “Joey’s BASSment” (2024), “Ready or Not” (2025), and “3I/ATLAS” (2025), the latter two featuring guitar solos by fellow FJ guitarist Nat Saralamba.
His influences include Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and Steve Vai, reflecting a musical approach that combines technical proficiency, melodic bass lines, and an appreciation for progressive rock.
Joe is also a dedicated enthusiast of bass guitars, amplification, and electronics, with an extensive collection of instruments and equipment. His basses have included custom Sadowsky, Lakland, and Spector instruments, paired with Genzler amplification and a variety of modern effects and processors.
