Pickup Showdown: EMG P/J vs Aguilar DCB vs EMG HZ

We’ve received many questions asking how the LHZ sounds in non-Spector basses, or its compatibility with other pickup types: How does it sound in a Spector Icon or an Ibanez SR with humbuckers? Can I use passive pickups instead of active?

Today, we’re taking a departure from the usual preamp comparisons to do a quick comparison of the LHZ with 3 different pickups:

  1. EMG P/J set: Active single-coil P/J set we all know and love!
  2. Aguilar DCB: Passive humbuckers that are the stock pickups in the new Spector Icon models.
  3. EMG HZ: Passive humbuckers that were the stock pickups in the Spector Rebop models.

The LHZ preamp works with any pickups (active, passive, single-coil, humbucker, TW coil tap, etc) from any manufacturer. We’re also in countless different basses as players have discovered the LHZ brings the same harmonic overtones and dynamic goodness to ANY bass.

Got a bass that’s been relegated to being a “practice bass” because it’s got an uninspiring tone? Drop an LHZ in it: you’ll be surprised!
